Shake It Up Already

I think the Bruins ownership and upper management has given the team more than enough leash this season. It’s great that Chiarelli is in love with his players to an almost Epstein-esque level but they’re not working out. With the whole team under-performing it’s time to take a page from Da Guy’s book and SHAKE IT UP.

Listening to Felger and Mazz on the way home last night and it doesn’t sound like I’m the only one that thinks so. They floated names like Marchand, Lucic, Kelly, Eriksson, Soderberg. With the coveted name coming back, Taylor Hall from Edmonton.

Joe Haggs over on CSSNE floated a scenario of Chris Kelly, Loui Eriksson, Malcolm Subban, Adam McQuaid and draft picks for Hall. But mentioned that the Oilers really want Lucic or Hamilton back in a deal.

Krejci’s name has been mentioned and even Tuukka’s name has been floated.

I’m OK with all of it.

This team wasn’t good enough to win a Stanley Cup two years ago. They’re not any better than they were, in fact they’re worse and playing even worse than that.

I say you go big. Take a risk. Shake up this failing dumpster fire of a roster and get some new blood in there.

Of course they’ll likely do nothing, be a fringe playoff team, and get ousted in the first round. Maybe that will cost Chiarelli or Claude their jobs. Maybe that’ll wake up this team, right in time for next season.

Coasting to the Finish

Bruins Wild

With the East wrapped up, the Bruins really don’t have anything to play for over the last few games. Sure there’s the President’s Cup I talked about the other day, but ask the players and I’m sure they’ll tell you they don’t care about it as much as they care about winning the Cup.

The advantage of being able to rest guys this last week of the season is a good thing. Everyone’s hurt this time of year so if you can get a guy like Iginla some extra rest for nagging injuries, it’s nice that the Bruins have that luxury.

So last night I laughed a little when they showed the lines against Minnesota and they had Torey Krug up on the wing. There were so many calls last season in the playoffs where callers would suggest putting Krug up on the wing. In your best Tony Mazz voice you could hear them, “Yeah, they should put Krug on the wing because he’s wicked fast.”

I like the playing around with different combos. I like seeing Reilly Smith finally score a goal. I like seeing Bergeron continue his white hot play.

My one concern is getting the guys all back together. Putting Smith back on the second line and putting Erickson back with the one eyed Swede. Letting Tuukka have two of the next three nights off and then getting him in there for the finale.

In Claude I trust (two Stanley Cup Finals trips does that), I just hope that messing with lines and resting guys isn’t messing with the team.
